Taiyaki

Taiyaki, a fish -shape cake /snack filled with red bean paste. During the street fair and festivals, you'll see it being cooked on a fish -shaped iron mould. Why fish ? Back in Meiji-era ( 1868-1912), Tai (sea bream ) fish was consided a very expensive fish and only eaten for special day.  Though unclear which sweet shops actully started the trend. They decided to change the snack from its circular shape mould to the tai shape mould, The tai shape cake was born and becoame a huge hit.

When during its freshly made, the crispy exterior surrounding the warm soft and cake with red bean paste.  But in these day, there are many other filling such as custard, chocolate, cream cheese or even sausage in it.
